- Dev Channel – канал разработчиков, здесь поставляются самые ранние сборки с новейшими наработками Microsoft. Это канал для продвинутых пользователей ПК, таких, которые могут справиться с системными багами, ибо сборки на этом канале сырые, неотлаженные, часто нестабильные. И это канал для энтузиастов, которые хотят в числе первых быть в курсе событий в эволюции Windows 11;
- Beta Channel – бета-канал тестирования операционной системы, здесь поставляются сборки, более-менее отлаженные после канала Dev Channel, но они всё ещё могут быть сырыми и нестабильными;
Windows».
Release Preview.

Dev Channel vs. Beta Channel: What’s the Difference?

How to Switch Between Dev and Beta Channels in Windows 11
With reports that future Windows 11 Dev Channel updates could be unstable for Windows Insiders, you might want to switch to the more stable Beta Channel—or back to the Dev Channel later if you change your mind. Here’s how to do it.
Dev Channel vs. Beta Channel: What’s the Difference?
In the Windows Insider Program, Microsoft describes the Dev Channel as being «for highly technical users,» and that «there will be some rough edges and low stability.» It’s a bleeding-edge release channel for brand new features that haven’t been tested much yet.
In contrast, the Beta Channel delivers more reliable builds that are «validated» by Microsoft, and it’s «ideal for early adopters» who want to try Windows 11 with less risk of crashes, according to Microsoft.
When the Windows 11 Insider Preview first launched in June 2021, Microsoft released the OS only through the Windows Insider Dev Channel. After Windows 11 launched on the Beta channel on July 29, a more stable version became available for people who might want to try it out (although we found the Dev Channel release was very stable to begin with).
How to Switch Between Dev and Beta Channels in Windows 11
First, it’s important to know that the following instructions only apply to Windows 11 installations that are linked up to the Windows Insider program. (At the time of this writing on August 24, 2021, that means all Windows 11 installations—but that won’t always be the case.)
To get started, press Windows+i to open the Settings app. You can also right-click the Start menu and select «Settings» from the list.
When Settings opens, select «Windows Update» in the sidebar.
In Windows Update, click «Windows Insider Program.»
In Windows Insider Program settings, click «Choose your Insider Settings» to expand the menu if necessary.
When the menu drops down, click the circular button beside either «Dev Channel» or «Beta Channel (Recommended)» to select it, depending on your preference.
And that’s all you need to do. The Settings app saves your selection automatically. Close Settings, and from now on, you’ll only get Beta Channel updates.
At any time, you can revisit Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program and choose a different option to switch channels again. Happy testing!
Initially, in the insider version of Windows 11, you could change insider channels if you initially opted for the beta. However, now you can change channels from dev to beta as well. The process is simple and doesn’t take long, and you can easily do it from the settings. This tutorial will address this and show you how to change the insider channel on Windows 11 computers.
Change Insider Channel on Windows 11
If you had signed up for the Insider programmer, you were asked to pick a channel. You had the option to choose from Dev Channel, Beta Channel, and the Release Preview Channel. These channels were targeted at different audiences.
Target Audience for Channels
- The Dev Channel is for technical users. It is the recommended channel for analysts and developers who want to try every feature, although it could be unstable and instantly released.
- The Beta Channel is relatively more stable and is for people who want to try new features but the most stable ones.
Microsoft released the Dev channel first, but it also released the Beta Channel a few days ago. If you signed up for the Dev channel before and want to try the Beta Channel, you can now do that. If you had signed up for the Beta channel but want to try out the Dev channel, you can do that too.
Change Insider Channel on Windows 11 Using Settings
Step-1: Right-click on the Start menu (the Windows icon) and select Settings. (Shortcut keys: Win + I)
Step-2: Select Windows Update from the left pane.
Step-3: Select Windows Insider Programme.
Step-4: Select Choose your Insider settings option.
Step-5: Select the Channel you want (Beta, Dev).
Step-6: Close the settings and restart your system.
The insider builds are relatively stable; however, I suggest you wait until the official release if you want to test software, games, etc. The insider versions are a little buggy, and you may not be able to test the software and apps without getting stuck on a screen.
This tutorial will show you how to change your Windows Insider Program channel to the Canary Channel, Dev Channel, Beta Channel or Release Preview Channel to get Insider preview builds of Windows 11 on your PC.
Flighting is the process of running Windows Insider Preview Builds on your device. When you run these early versions of Windows and give Microsoft feedback, you can help Microsoft shape the future of Windows. Once you’ve registered for the Windows Insider Program, you can run Insider Preview builds on as many devices as you want, each in the channel of your choice.

Last year, Microsoft shared how they were evolving the Windows Insider Program to have more emphasis on trying out different concepts with their features and services. This 2023 year, Microsoft is continuing that evolution to better support delivering continuous innovation to Windows 11 by rebooting the Dev Channel from the ground up, to become the best place for Insiders to try out new long-lead features and experiences in development. Microsoft is also creating a new Canary Channel, to support preview builds of platform changes, similar to what was previously flighted to the Dev Channel. Microsoft is excited to roll these changes out and give folks more options to preview builds, but it does require a few initial tactical adjustments outlined below. Read on to understand what Insider Channel may be best for you and the action you may need to take to initiate changes.
Now is a good time for Insiders to evaluate their channel selection to make sure it’s right for them. For example:
- If you are an Insider in the Beta Channel who wants to be closer to the latest new features and experiences, Microsoft recommends you switch to the Dev Channel today.
- It is important to note that when switching channels, Insiders can’t switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without doing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical setup requirements.
For Insiders who are automatically moved to the Canary Channel but want to be in the Dev Channel instead, they will need to do a clean installation of Windows 11 to make the switch.
Initial build series per channel:
- Canary Channel: 26000 series.
- Dev Channel: 26000 series.
- Beta Channel: 22000 series.
- Release Preview: Preview of next public released versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Here is how the Insider Channels will look going forward with the updated channel descriptions:
- [NEW!] Canary Channel: Ideal for highly technical users. Preview the latest platform changes early in the development cycle. These builds can be unstable and are released with limited to no documentation.
- [REBOOTED!] Dev Channel: Ideal for enthusiasts. Access the latest Windows 11 preview builds as we incubate new ideas and develop long lead features. There will be some rough edges and low stability.
- [Unchanged] Beta Channel: Ideal for early adopters. These Windows 11 builds will be more reliable than builds from our Dev Channel, with updates validated by Microsoft. Your feedback has the greatest impact here.
- [Unchanged] Release Preview Channel: Ideal if you want to preview fixes and certain key features, plus get optional access to the next version of Windows before it’s generally available to the world. This channel is also recommended for commercial users.
As mentioned last year, Microsoft controls the state of individual features and experiences included in the builds released to Windows Insiders across the channels. Microsoft does this with Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR) technology. This allows Microsoft to roll out features in stages to monitor quality and your feedback in addition to trying out different variations of features (often referred to as “A/B testing”).
With this level of control over individual features and experiences, Microsoft may release a build to the Dev Channel with a feature enabled but intentionally disabled in a build released to the Beta Channel or Canary Channel. Microsoft will enable features in the builds when they are ready to do so. Microsoft will only communicate about features that they are purposefully enabling for Insiders to try out and give feedback on. Microsoft will communicate to Insiders about new features and experiences that get enabled across all the Insider Channels via blog posts on the Windows Insider Blog including the Canary Channel. But as Microsoft mentioned above, they will offer only limited documentation for the Canary Channel.
This requires you have already set to get Windows Insider builds.
