How to fix the volmgr 162 error? If you also encounter the same error on your computer, you come to the right place. In this post, MiniTool Partition Wizard provides some effective solutions to help you get rid of this error.
When playing computer games, some users encounter error 162 on their computer, which causes the PC to freeze and restart. This error bothers them a lot, so they have reported this error in many forums to seek help. Here is an example from answers.microsoft.com:
Hello, I’m having a Volmgr 162 error, the screen freezes and then restarts. It happens while gaming mostly. I did everything to fix it but I couldn’t fix it Please help with it. New built pc. System specs…https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-11-volmgr-162/4db40c6f-41ce-4f3e-a133-225a4a523a82
After searching on the Internet, I found that incorrect system time and date settings are the main cause of the Event ID 162 error. Besides, outdated Windows, corrupted system files, disk errors, and enabled Fast Startup feature are also related to this error. Have you also encountered the same error? If so, continue reading.
Fix 1. Check System Time and Date Settings
Incorrect system time and date can cause the volmgr error 162. So, you’d better check the system time and date setting when you encounter this error. Here’s how to do it:
- Press the Windows + S keys simultaneously to open the Search window.
- Type “control panel” in the search box, and then click Control Panel under Best Match.
- Set View by as Categories and select Clock and Region.
- Click Date and Time, and then go to the Internet Time tab.
- Click the Change settings button.
- Check the box of Synchronize with an Internet time server.
- Next, click Update now and OK.
Fix 2. Update Windows
Outdated Windows can also cause various errors, including the volmgr error 162. So, you can try updating Windows to the latest version to fix the error. To do that, you just need to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows update, and then click Check for updates. If there are available updates, update them.
Fix 3. Run SFC and DISM
Corrupted system files are also responsible for the volmgr 162 error. In this case, you can try running SFC and DISM to fix the error. Here’s the way:
Step 1. Open the Search window, type “cmd” in the search window, right-click the Command Prompt under Best Match, and then select Run as administrator.
Step 2. Type “sfc /scannow” and press Enter.
Step 3. Once the scanning is complete, check if the error has been resolved. If not, proceed by initiating a DISM scan. Here are the DISM commands:
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Fix 4. Check Disk for Errors
Disk errors can also cause the volmgr error ID 162. In this situation, you can check your disks for errors to fix the error. To do that, I recommend MiniTool Partition Wizard for you. It provides the Check File System feature to check and fix the disk errors and the Surface Test to check the bad sectors.
In addition, this multifunctional disk manager can also help you to partition hard drive, convert MBR to GPT, do data recovery, migrate OS to SSD without reinstalling OS, format USB to FAT32, check for disk errors, change cluster size, rebuild MBR, set partitions as logical/primary, and more.
MiniTool Partition Wizard FreeClick to Download100%Clean & Safe
To run it to check disk errors and bad sectors, you can refer to these posts:

Fix 5. Disable Fast Startup
Incomplete shutdowns caused by Fast Startup can sometimes result in system errors, like the volmgr error ID 162. In this case, you can try disabling Fast Startup to fix the error. To do that, you can refer to this post: What Is “Fast Startup” Mode and How to Enable or Disable It?
Note:
If you are still unable to fix the Event ID 162 error, you can also try to perform a system restore or reset Windows to fix the error.
Wrapping Things up
Here’s the end of the post. Now, you may already know how to fix the volmgr 162 error. You can try these fixes provided in this post to fix the error on your PC.

This is always followed by these errors in my event viewer.
I’ve been having this exact issues for 7 days straight. Each BSOD is followed by the same two errors. volmgr 162 and Critical Kernel-Power 41. This just started happening and I’ve had this PC since August of 2022.
Critical Kernel-Power —
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I just don’t know what to do to fix it. I’ve tried running various scans and stuff from Google searches of people having similar issues.

Going through iBUY Power driver support. I was taken to Nvidia where I was given driver version 531.58 dated 4/4/23 for your GPU. This is a hotfix driver package replacing driver package 531.41 dated 3/23/23
4/4/23 This is the statement copied from Nvidia
GeForce Hotfix display driver version 531.58 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 531.41.
The hotfix addresses the following issues:
- [The Last of Us Part 1] Game may randomly crash during gameplay on GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs [4031676]
- Assassin’s Creed Origins may have stability issues when using 531.18. [4008770]
- [Resident Evil 4 Remake] Corruption in the game when FXAA enabled [4051903]
………
To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out.
This statement can be found in its entirety here. https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5455

There was one misbehaving driver causing hangs or freezes.
One of the drivers causing the BSOD also caused the hangs and freezes.
There was a WHEA event so you can monitor the computer for stability / instability to see if there is any underlying malfunctioning hardware.
If there are no recurrent BSOD that will complete the troubleshooting.

Windows BSOD with Event 162 volmgr & Event 41 Kernel-Power
I am receiving regular BSOD errors with the error PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. In the event viewer I can see error event 162 volmgr & critical event 41 kernel-power occur at the time of the crash. The crash can occur at any time but seems to be more frequent when waking from inactivity.
I have completely wiped and re-installed windows 11, run restoro, sfc, windows memory diagnostic and 4 passes of memtestx86 with no errors found. I have also tried installing new RAM and I’m still getting the error.
Any suggestions as to the cause would be greatly appreciated.

Issue: For several weeks now, I have had this issue when my PC suddenly hangs and then crashes. This happens consistently, and it doesn’t matter what I’m doing on it. When checking the Event Log, I noticed numerous Event ID 162 (Volmgr) errors, followed up by one Event ID 41, which probably crashes Windows. Any tips for me would be appreciated.
Solved Answer
System crashes in Windows environments can be a significant source of frustration and inconvenience, often disrupting work and causing data loss. Among the various issues that can lead to system instability, the Event ID 162, commonly referred to as the Volmgr 162 error, stands out as a notable cause.
This error is often associated with system hang-ups and consistent crashing, making it a critical problem for Windows users to be aware of. Notably, Volmgr 162 error frequently appears in conjunction with Event ID 41 (Kernel-power), which adds a layer of complexity to diagnosing and understanding the underlying issue.
Event ID 41 is typically indicative of issues related to the Power Supply Unit (PSU) or other power-related problems in a Windows system. This error suggests that the system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first, which could be due to power loss, a glitch, or other abrupt interruptions.
On the other hand, Volmgr 162 is more closely tied to problems concerning the system’s time and date settings. It’s crucial to note that while these errors might hint at PSU or time/date issues, the actual causes can be diverse and sometimes not immediately apparent.
The occurrence of the Volmgr 162 error might result from a variety of factors. It’s important to consider that while one cause might be prevalent in some situations, in others, it could be a combination of different issues. This complexity is why diagnosing and resolving the error can be challenging.
If you’re encountering these issues, it’s important to remember that while the error codes provide valuable clues, they don’t always point directly to a single, straightforward solution. In scenarios where a system is plagued by the Volmgr 162 and/or other errors, utilizing a specialized PC repair tool FortectMac Washing Machine X9 can be an efficient strategy.
