With Twitter for Windows 10 on mobile, you can experience Moments and group Direct Messages; shoot, edit, and Tweet video using your camera; share a Tweet and add your own commentary with quote Tweet; it’s easier to follow conversations; and you can check out top Tweets without logging in.
We’ve heard that one of your favorite things about Twitter for Windows phone is the dark theme. Since this is also one of the most requested features for Twitter for Windows 10 on desktop and tablets, we’re bringing the dark theme there too. Change your theme by going to Settings > Personalization.
Additionally with this update, you can use Cortana to send a Tweet or search Twitter.
Designing Twitter for Windows 10 Mobile
When we redesigned Twitter for Windows last year, we followed Universal Windows Platform (UWP), and as a result, Twitter for Windows easily adapts to different devices and screen sizes.
When bringing the app to mobile phones we carefully considered each section of Twitter and how the user interaction translates from desktops and tablets. We found that 90% of the UI and interaction models could be shared from these devices to mobile phones, but there were places where we decided to make adjustments to optimize for each. For example, take Moments. On mobile, the smaller screen lends itself more to a full-screen and immersive experience:
But while full-screen paging with swipe navigation is easy and delightful on mobile devices, it’s a pain point when using a mouse to click through. On larger screens for desktop and tablets, it made sense to present the information in a grid layout:
The updated Twitter app for Windows 10 is available to download for free from the Windows Store today. Expect more features and improvements to come on Twitter for Windows in the future. Когда до релиза Windows 10 Redstone 4 оставалось несколько недель, разработчики Twitter выпустили PWA-версию своего приложения для Windows 10. В отличие от нативного, веб-приложение популярного сервиса предлагает куда больше возможностей и не отстает по своим функциям от официальных клиентов Twitter на Android и iOS (если не брать во внимание отдельные моменты и небольшие нюансы). С момента выхода приложения разработчики добавили в него много различных улучшений и доработок, а теперь еще и выпустили клиент для Windows 10 Mobile. Непонятно лишь, зачем.
Появление PWA-версии Twitter для Windows 10 Mobile смотрится весьма странно, учитывая тот факт, что у мобильной Windows 10 весьма убогая поддержка веб-приложений. Все то, что делает PWA-приложения более-менее пригодными к использованию (насколько они вообще пригодны к использованию), появилось лишь в Redstone 4. Именно эта версия операционной системы получила в свое распоряжение так называемые “service workers”, благодаря чему PWA-приложения поддерживают живые плитки и уведомления. Windows 10 Mobile уже давно не получает должного внимания от разработчиков и застряла где-то на Redstone 2, где, разумеется, нет подобных прелестей и скорее всего никогда уже не будет.
Старое приложение Twitter для Windows 10 Mobile пусть и сильно отставало в своем развитии (нет поддержка круглых аватарок, нет поддержки 280 знаков, нет поддержки закладок и так далее), хотя бы поддерживало уведомления и живые плитки. Если плитки для Twitter не столь существенны (стоит признать, что концепция живых плиток раскрылась в полной мере лишь в крайне небольшом количестве приложений, а подавляющее большинство разработчиков тупо забили на это болт), то отсутствие уведомлений может весьма сильно раздражать. В конце концов, кому хочется пропустить уведомление о личном сообщении, ретвите или публикации от нужного человека? Также вычеркните из списка черную тему оформления, что особо огорчит многих пользователей с OLED-экранами.
С другой стороны, PWA-версия добавила поддержку 280 знаков и закладок, так что это обновление относится к разряду «тут лечим, там калечим». Возможно, новую версию выпустили случайно и нативное приложение вернется в магазин где-то в ближайшее время. А возможно, что и не вернется.

Twitter/X/Nitter PWA app for Windows 10 Mobile
Twitter app revival for Windows 10 Mobile using Nitter.net — based on WebView XAML control with custom user agent to make again it run on Windows 10 Mobile.
I had to change to Nitter after the official Twitter site stopped working on EdgeHTML for some reason.

Twitter has today updated its app on Windows 10 Mobile to the new PWA version that recently launched on Windows 10 desktop. Unfortunately, this means Windows 10 Mobile users will no longer receive things like push notifications, as notifications from the Twitter PWA rely on service workers to function, and Windows 10 Mobile does not support service workers.
The new Twitter PWA, while excellent on Windows 10 desktop, is less excellent on Windows 10 Mobile. Microsoft left Windows 10 Mobile behind at Redstone 2 when it switched to the feature2 branch, and has such does not have any of the new improvements to PWA support that Redstone 4 introduced on PC. This means that while the Twitter PWA works, it does not have many tie-ins with the OS.
For example, the Twitter PWA on Mobile no longer has a live tile, and as already mentioned, does not have push notification support. This means those on Windows 10 Mobile won’t get notifications when someone sends you a message or retweets you on Twitter. It also has no dark mode. Notifications work on PC because Windows 10 desktop supports these service workers included with Redstone 4.
On the plus side, the new Twitter PWA brings with it all the updated Twitter changes, including the increased character support, the ability to bookmark tweets, and more. Perhaps the update was pushed out in error, or maybe Twitter thinks users on Mobile won’t mind missing out on things like push notifications. Last year, Twitter had released their app for Windows 10 for PCs and tablets. Now, it has launched the app for mobile as well. The app comes with a revamped user interface. Features such as Moments, GIF support, group chat, muting, shooting, editing and tweeting videos, sharing a tweet with the user’s own comments through quote tweet and browsing the top tweets without being logged in are now fully supported. Twitter is also bringing some improvements to the desktop app.
In Twitter for Windows 10 Mobile, we’ve added features that make content discovery, as well as both public and private sharing, more seamless than ever. Explore Moments; send group Direct Messages; shoot, edit and Tweet video; share a Tweet and easily add your own commentary with quote Tweet; and check out top Tweets without logging in, said Jeremy Forrester in a blog post.
Twitter has said that it will add the dark theme, which is one of the most requested features to the service. The feature is available on all Windows 10-powered devices, though for Windows 10 Mobile, the theme is changed according to the system settings.
