Have you seen this message when installing SolidWorks 2018? With each major release it’s important to check the system requirements before installing.
Windows 7 is currently the most popular operating system, with about 68% of PCs worldwide using this OS! But did you know it’s currently past “mainstream” support? As a Windows program, SolidWorks will discontinue support for that operating system, so as you’re choosing new systems keep that in mind!
From the Windows website:
*Support for Windows 7 pre-service pack 1 ended on April 9, 2013. Be sure to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 to continue to receive support and updates.

Here are the SolidWorks dates for Windows 7 support going forward:
So what does this mean to SolidWorks users? Customers running 8.1 should plan on migrating to Windows 10 to install SOLIDWORKS 2019 or newer. Windows 7 will need to migrate if installing SolidWorks 2021 or newer.
Also remember to check Windows Server product compatibility before upgrading (PDM, SolidNetwork Licensing, etc.)

slic3r перед тем, как выкладывать верхние слои, кладет мосты, а прекрасный Simpli3D этого не делает

You may have seen warnings during the last couple of SOLIDWORKS versions about the support for Windows XP and Windows Vista ceasing, so it may come as a shock when attempting to install on a Windows 7 computer that you are hit with the following error:
This has cropped up on the support desk over the last couple of weeks, and in all cases the user was using a Windows 7 operating system- so this message made no sense. On further inspection, it was actually due to a Windows option that was brought in during the XP to Windows 7 transition allowing users to run programs in an emulator mode. The file in question that needed changing is the «Setup.exe» file that resides typically under the path:
C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\SOLIDWORKS Downloads\SOLIDWORKS 20xx x64 SPxx
Right clicking on the setup.exe file allows you to view its Properties
And then there is the tab for Compatibility.
In here the solution was to check to box to run in compatibility mode and then explicitly specify Windows 7. This allowed the setup file to launch as expected.

При данной операции получим файл, например «swSettings SW2009 09.11.sldreg«.
Это натуральный файл реестра Windows и если его переименовать в *.reg и запустить на выполнение(я иногда прямо в TotalCommander-e ставлю курсор на него жму ввод(Enter)).
После этого должно появиться сообщение типа: «Изменение в реестр были успешно внесены»(или не внесены). Но это я делал в WinXP.
В XP я как-то смешал 2 SW с разных разделов и получилась такая путанница — работать было невозможно.
Как в Win7 я не знаю… Там вообще реестр как выглядит? Если он там есть… Можно поискать в нем разделы SW нужных версий, сравнить…
Еще, при сохранении настроек SW утилитой «Copy Settings Wizard», ИМХО там вроде есть переключатели — что именно сохранять: пути, интерфейс и т.д.
Ну и еще: лучше всего (при наличии минимум 2-х HDD), устанавливать отдельные ОС на разные HDD. И в этих ОС уже ставить разные SW.
При загрузке можно выбрать с какого HDD грузимся и дальше стартуем SW. (Именно так у меня и сделанно(HDD1-SW2007, HDD2-2010)). Никаких проблем.
Думаю еще можно попробовать так:
— делаем два bat-файла с 2-мя строчками:
swsett_2007 ; — настройки для SW2007
solidworks.exe ;- старт SW2007
и второй bat-файл:
swsett_2010 ; — настройки для SW2010
solidworks.exe ;- старт SW2010
На каждый bat-файл делаем иконку на рабочем столе или как удобней будет.
Ну это пока так, мысль — я не пробовал…
A number of issues with SOLIDWORKS have been caused by Microsoft Installer update KB3072630 from 15th July 2015. If you see any of the errors below, read on for an easy fix.
- The error “The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation” is displayed when attempting to apply a service pack to SOLIDWORKS with administrative rights.
- After an installation or upgrade of SOLIDWORKS, many SOLIDWORKS add-ins are missing from the add-ins list
- When launching SOLIDWORKS or opening a file, SOLIDWORKS returns “Could not load SOLIDWORKS DLL: GdtAnalysisSupport.dll”
- SOLIDWORKS Treehouse crashes when launching
- SOLIDWORKS crashes when launching, with a SWVBAServer error. This also happens when recording, playing, or editing a SOLIDWORKS Macro
- The error “Could not load SOLIDWORKS DLL: sldshellutils” error is returned when selecting “Pack and Go…” from SOLIDWORKS or SOLIDWORKS Explorer
- “DWG document manager library is invalid or missing” error seen launching SOLIDWORKS or SOLIDWORKS Explorer
- The error “Failed to create ToolboxLibrary object”, followed by “SOLIDWORKS database is missing” when accessing SOLIDWORKS Toolbox add-in?
- Instability when using Equations.
How to fix these errors:
To address any of the issues above, try the following steps:
First of all make sure you have unticked the “Hide extensions for known file types” in the windows folder options
Download this zip archive: SW-Error-Fixes which includes the two registry files required for fixing this issue. We recommend using WinZip or WinRAR for unzipping your archive.
Extract the 2 files and double click on “RunBeforeRepair_disable_KB3072630.reg“. This will make a change to your registry – Windows may warn you that the publisher cannot be verified. Click “Run” to ignore this message.
At the next message click “Yes”
You must now repair SOLIDWORKS. To do this, navigate to the Control Panel > Programs and Features.
Select SOLIDWORKS and choose “Change”.
Choose the option to “Repair the individual installation” when the Installation Manager appears, Click “Next”, then “Repair” on the screen after.
After repairing, and restarting if necessary you will need to renable KB3072630 by running the second .reg file you downloaded.
Locate the “RunAfterRepair_enable_KB3072630.reg” file you unzipped earlier. Run this file, using the same process as “RunBeforeRepair_disable_KB3072630.reg”.
That’s it! The issue should now be resolved. If you experienced any issues during this process please contact us (subscription customers only).
