Step 2. When the Registry Editor appears on your computer, browse to the following key in the left side navigation pane:-

Step 3. On the right pane of WindowsMetrics, double-click the ScrollHeight REG_SZ to edit it.
Note: The default value for scroll width is -225. You can enter the value to –500 to make it approx double the width. However, you can enter any value up to –1500. The higher the value, the wider scrollbar.
Step 4. Once you enter the desired number in the “Value data” field, click the OK button to save the changes.
Step 5. Now, double-click the ScrollWidth REG_SZ and enter the same value that you set in ScrollHeight.
Step 6. Click OK.
Step 7. At last, restart your computer to apply the changes.
Now, open File Explorer and see the Scrollbar if it needs your requirement.

It is possible to adjust window title bar height using Windows Registry Editor. This method is worth mentioning for those who like tinkering with the system themselves.

- To change the scollbar width, change the string value named «ScrollWidth». Set its value using the following formula:

This tutorial explains how to change the scrollbar width and height in Windows 10.
We know that when we open a new window (say File Explorer) and adjust its size, the horizontal and vertical scrollbars are visible. However, these scrollbars are of default width and height and Windows 10 or lower versions don’t provide any option to change them. Still, it is possible to adjust the height and width of these scrollbars. You need to tweak Windows 10 Registry. Don’t worry, it won’t harm your PC and also very easy to do.
In the screenshot below, you can see the comparison of default and customized scrollbars. I reduced the size of scrollbars and it is looking quite good (well at least I’m happy with the changes). The changes are added to all types of windows like File Explorer, a folder, Save as window, Open window, etc.

Step 1: Open Registry Editor and then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrices. The WindowMetrices key has two different string values: ScrollHeight and ScrollWidth.
Step 2: Double click on ScrollHeight key and you will see its default value is set to ‘-255’. If you want to decrease the height, then enter value lower than -255, say -320. And to increase the height, enter value greater than -255.
Repeat the same for ScrollWidth.

How to Change the Scrollbar Width in Windows 11 or 10
- Open Registry Editor and browse to the location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics. Double-click the DWORD ScrollWidth in the right pane to modify its value data.
- The default value of ScrollWidth is -255 and it is based on this formula: -15 multiplied by the width you want in pixels, so you can figure out the default width of the scrollbar is 17 pixels. To make the scrollbar wider, I would like to change it to 20 pixels, so I enter -300 in the Value data field and click OK.
Note that the value of ScrollWidth should be between -120 and -1500. There is also a similar registry entry called ScrollHeight, which allows you to adjust the height of the scrollbar.
- Close Registry Editor. You need to log out of your user account and then log back in to see the changes.
