Hello,I have Windows XP 32 bit with service pack 3 and Firefox 52.9.1 ESR browser.
Now that adobe flash player is history I can’t play videos online that are not on youtube.
I can still watch youtube videos.
Is there a HTML5 video player or something else I can install on this old system that will work or is that not possible?
I know it’s an old system but it still does the job.
Thanks.

Firefox relies on the Microsoft «Media Foundation» for decoding MPEG media (like MP4 video) in the HTML5 player. Microsoft never released Media Foundation for XP, only Vista and newer.
I don’t know whether there are any other plugins that could help, or whether you’ll need to use an external player, for example, get the link to the video and feed it to VLC.
VLC: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
This looks like a headache and probably beyond my computer skill level to try and do.
Is there definitely no alternative video player to replace Flash that works out of the box or with minimal easy changes with XP and FF 52.9.1?
Videos still play on youtube but that’s it,nowhere else.
The Adobe Primetime module doesn’t work.
It shows in the add on’s list but won’t install.
Complete waste of time after I figured out how to install it.
My antivirus detected a virus in the Mozilla profiles folder which probably came from the Primetime zip file.
The easiest solution to the problem is to ditch Firefox and use the Mypal browser for XP which plays videos that are not on youtube and as well on youtube, plus the Mypal browser gets updated regularly unlike old Firefox browsers that work with XP.

media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled (boolean, true)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.forceSupported (boolean, true; ТОЛЬКО для Fх 49.0+)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.forcevisible (boolean, true; ТОЛЬКО для Fх 45-48)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.visible (boolean, true; ТОЛЬКО для Fх 49.0+)
media.gmp.decoder.enabled (boolean, true)
media.eme.enabled (boolean, true)

«The Adobe CDM doesn’t work for EME on WinXP, and we were trying to get it working for unencrypted decoding of MP4/H.264/AAC files on WinXP, but it has a bug that causes it to crash on some systems. So we turned unencrypted decoding via the Adobe GMP off. Adobe have decided that they aren’t going to support WinXP furthermore, so they’re not going to be fixing that bug. We don’t want to use unsupported decoder for unencrypted decoding.«
Как говорится, nuff said.
media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled (boolean, true)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.forceSupported (boolean, true; FF 49.0+)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.forcevisible (boolean, true; FF 45-48, no longer used in 49.0+)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.visible (boolean, true; FF 49.0+)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.version (string, 17; required for manual install now that automatic install is no longer an option)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.abi (string, x86-msvc-x86; not required, you can set it if you want to more closely mimic automatic install)
media.gmp-eme-adobe.lastUpdate (integer, 1500000000; not required, you can set it if you want to more closely mimic automatic install)
media.gmp.decoder.enabled (boolean, true)
media.eme.enabled (boolean, true)

Can someone explain exactly how to install the Primetime zip package into subfolder 17?
The instructions on the msfn site are confusing to me.
I’ve got this far but can’t install the zip.
This has been a big headache for a non advanced computer user.
Everything else is done and ready to go.
To install the plugin:
- Open your FF profile folder. An easy way to navigate to it is by opening about:support in FF and clicking the Open Folder button next to Profile Folder.
- Inside the profile folder, create subfolder gmp-eme-adobe and open it.
- Inside gmp-eme-adobe, create subfolder 17 and open it.
- Unpack the Primetime ZIP archive into folder 17.
- Folder [your FF profile path]\gmp-eme-adobe\17 should now contain three files: eme-adobe.dll, eme-adobe.info, eme-adobe.voucher.

You could probably receive informed advice if you were to provide us with an informed question.
The Primetime DRM package isn’t going to work in XP so you are chasing a red herring.
Which HTML content are you attempting to play? Most videos play fine in MyPal browser’s HTML5 renderer.
https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal/releases
Some things just aren’t to work in any XP browser but MyPal is updated regulalrly unlike Firefox 52.9 ESR.

Are you positive it won’t work?
Microsoft launched Internet Explorer 9 boasting HTML5 support and creating a “beauty-of-the-web” experience.
If you’re still using Windows XP, IE9 will be leaving you on the sideline.
You can argue and urge users to get their technological-selves up to speed, but the truth of the matter is, there are plenty of churches and non-profits whose belts are cinched so tight they have no funds to pour into computer upgrades.
In fact, if you take into consideration the entire world, the number of XP users is even higher. In Italy, for instance, I am more likely to see XP systems than Vista and Windows 7 combined! In fact, I could go to some stores, here in Italy, and purchase a brand new machine with XP on it!
That all being said, I have a solution that will solve the web browsing dilemma presented to XP users.
HTML5 for XP is the place for you to begin.
HTML5 for XP is:
Written by Chris Heilmann, powered by annoyance and the memory of hours wasted on IE6 trying to replicate bugs instead of playing with new, cool technology.
Amen.
