Software update information
A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE 6.0 Platform Builder Monthly Update (January 2007). You can confirm this by scrolling to the «File information» section of this article. The package file name contains the product version, date, Knowledge Base article number, and processor type. The package file name format is:

Prerequisites
This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.
Restart requirement
After you apply this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To clean the platform, click Clean on the Build menu. To build the platform, click Build Platform on the Build menu. You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.

These are all of the .NET Compact 2.0 and SR packages found in Visual Studio 2005, for use in Windows CE 5.0 and Similar (WM 5.0, Pocket PC 5.0)
Installation Instructions:
Remember to choose the correct packages for your system! If you’re emulating it using the Microsoft Device Emulator the needed packages probably are System_SR_ENU_wm.cab or System_SR_ENU.cab and NETCFv2.wm.armv4i.cab or NETCFv2.wce4.armv4i.cab
- Copy the files to the Mobile Device (You can copy it though the Storage Card, Copy it from a Website using WIFI or BT, Bluetooth File Share, IR File Share, or send it through ActiveSync)
- With your file browser, browse to where these files reside.
- Open System_SR_XXX_XX.cab by double tapping it.
- Select the Storage Medium to install it to and tap or select on «Install»
- After it installs tap on OK and go back to your File Browser.
- Open NETCFv2.XX.XXXXXX.cab by double tapping it.
- As before, select the storage medium you want to install to and tap or select «Install»
- Select or tap «Ok» to restart your device.
If you get «Installation failed» you might want to try another package.
You should upgrade or use an alternative browser.

The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework (.NET CF) is a version of the .NET Framework that is designed to run on Windows CE based mobile/embedded devices such as PDAs, mobile phones, factory controllers, set-top boxes, etc. The .NET Compact Framework uses some of the same class libraries as the full .NET Framework and also a few libraries designed specifically for mobile devices such as Windows CE InputPanel.

The Microsoft® .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable contains the common language runtime and class libraries built for the .NET Compact Framework. In addition to version 3.5 support, it also supports applications developed for version 1.0 and 2.0. Installation Instructions
- To download and install this update:
1. Close Platform Builder and any other Windows CE.NET applications.
2. Download each of the four files below to a directory on your computer. Click on each link and when prompted choose «Save to Disk». For the release notes.htm file you must right click on the link below and choose «Save Target As…».
3. Once you have downloaded all four files to a directory on your computer, locate the files you downloaded, and then double-click on the file PBupdate.msi to start the setup program and install the Windows CE.NET 4.1 .NET Compact Framework 1.0 RTM Update.
Note: You will not be able to properly install this setup unless you have downloaded all 4 files to the same directory.
Microsoft .NET Compact Framework (.NET CF) is a version of the .NET Framework that is designed to run applications on devices based on the Windows CE platform, such as PDAs, mobile phones, factory controllers and others. The .NET Compact Framework uses libraries similar to the full version of the .NET Framework, but there are special library collections for mobile devices, for example, Windows CE InputPanel.
Applications that use the .NET Compact Framework can be developed in Visual Studio .NET 2003, in Visual Studio 2005 and in Visual Studio 2008, in C # or in Visual Basic .NET. The result of the development is special applications for mobile devices with high performance (executed with the help of the JIT compiler).
To run .NET Compact Framework applications, the platform must have support for the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework. Some operating systems that include .NET CF can run Windows CE 4.1, Microsoft Pocket PC, Microsoft Pocket PC 2002, and Smartphone 2003 applications. .NET Compact Framework applications can run on desktops with a full .NET Framework if the application uses Common functionality for both Framework, although their user interface can not be made similar to PC applications.
The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable package contains common sets of .NET Compact Framework libraries and environments. In addition, in version 3.5 there is support for applications written for versions 1.0 and 2.0. .NET Compact Framework 3.5 provides new features, such as Windows Communication Foundation, LINQ, SoundPlayer, support for new environment tools and many other features.
