Java Based#

Apache Directory Studio#

Apache Directory Studio is developed as a sub-project of the Directory Top Level Project, Apache Directory Studio is an Eclipse RCP application that takes full advantage of the benefits inherent in the Eclipse platform.

Runs on Linux, OS X, or anywhere(?) you can run Java.

From the Apache Directory Project using the Apache License and with all(?) Apache Projects, it gets better and better with each release.

If you use Eclipse this is the one to use.

We have some useful information on the Apache Directory Studio.

Gawor’s LDAP Browser/Editor#

Getting hard to find. Last found it here. Not been updated for years, but it works good. Java based and runs on any client OS with Java I have tried.

JXplorer#

JXplorer is an open source LDAP browser originally developed by Computer Associates’ eTrust Directory development lab. It is a standards compliant general purpose LDAP browser that can be used to read and search any LDAP directory, or any X500 directory with an LDAP interface.

A Java-based LDAP browser and editor with a good Certificate Manager that could be run outside of browser.

There was an update to JXplorer in 2012.

We do like Simplified ldapSearch dialog.

Seems to have issues on LARGE implementations.

Windows Only#

Active Directory Explorer#

Active Directory Explorer (AD Explorer) is an advanced Active Directory (AD) viewer and editor. You can use AD Explorer to easily navigate an AD database, define favorite locations, view object properties and attributes without having to open dialog boxes, edit permissions, view an object’s schema, and execute sophisticated searches that you can save and re-execute.

Softerra Browser#

LDAP Browser is a Windows Explorer-like LDAP Directory client available for Win32 platforms. Based on Microsoft’s LDAP API.

NOTE: As far as we know this has not be updated since 2003 and we can not recommend the product.

Softerra LDAP Administrator#

LDAP Browser is a Windows Explorer-like LDAP Directory client available for Win32 platforms. Based on Microsoft’s LDAP API. Has some good export features and schema viewer. (Not free)

NOTE: Having purchased the product Aug 21, 2008 and today (Mar, 6, 2009) being asked to pay $100.00 for the software is quite expensive for the functionality. Having a policy of purchasing upgrade protection for an additional $85.00/year makes the software cost $185.00 (STILL with NO Support) and AFAIK, the most expensive product of its kind with no more functionality than Apache’s Directory Studio.

Cygsoft LDAP Browser#

A commercial tool for MS Windows — a GTK-based LDAP browser and editor

LDAP Exporter#

A LDAP browser for Windows — a LDAP browser/editor for Windows

LDAP Admin#

Ldap Admin is free Win32 administration tool for LDAP directory management. This application lets you browse, search, modify, create and delete objects on LDAP server. It also supports more complex operations such as directory copy and move between remote servers and extends the common edit functions to support specific object types (such as groups and accounts).

Works well and is light weight with no required registry entries. We assume you could run this from USB.

Linux/Unix Only#

KDirAdm#

LDAP Directory management tool written for the KDE Desktop Environment version 2 or later. It aims to provide all of the functionality of most commercial directory management tools.

Directory Administrator#

Widely used GNOME application for managing UNIX users and groups on LDAP directory servers. Directory administrator allows you to create and delete users and groups, and manage your users associated address book information, per-server access controls and Sendmail mail routing.

GQ#

A graphical LDAP client with a simpler interface. It was written for GNOME. It also runs under KDE, the same way Kldap runs under GNOME. Google for «GQ LDAP»

ldapvi#

The ldapvi is an interactive LDAP client for Unix terminals. Using it, you can update LDAP entries with a text editor.

WEB Based#

LDAP Account Manager — LAM Pro is an enhanced version of LAM which includes many features for enterprise usage. E.g. the LAM Pro self service allows your users to change their personal data and passwords themselves. PHP based. Focused on management of Unix user and group accounts, Samba 2.x/3 user and host accounts, Kolab 2 accounts. Provides profiles for account creation.

phpLDAPadmin (also known as PLA)#

phpLDAPadmin (also known as PLA) is a web-based LDAP client. It provides easy, anywhere-accessible, multi-language administration for your LDAP server.

web2ldap#

web2ldap is a generic LDAPv3 client which does not make any assumptions about the tree structure or LDAP schema. Kind of a swiss-army knife for accessing/manipulating LDAP servers without having to configure anything.

Others#

Please provide any others you know about!

  • Luma — LDAP browser, utility and more. — a Python-based utility

A Free Ldap Browser by LDAPSoft

LDAPSoft LDAP Browser offers a straightforward interface for navigating LDAP directories. Tailored for novice LDAP users and administrators, it serves as a read-only tool, ensuring no accidental modifications to directories. With LDAPSoft LDAP Browser, users can effortlessly search for entries, view available attributes, and execute SQL-LDAP statements. While it exclusively provides read-only access, advanced tools like LDAP Admin Tool Standard and Professional Editions are available for attribute modifications.
This browser supports connectivity to various LDAP directory servers, including OpenLDAP, Netscape/iPlanet, Novell eDirectory, Oracle Internet Directory, IBM Tivoli Directory, Lotus Domino, Microsoft Active Directory, and others compliant with LDAP v2 or LDAPv3 standards. It enables simultaneous connections to multiple directory servers, facilitating the swift browsing of extensive directories.

Main Feature of LDAP Browser:
