In October 2022, Microsoft said Apple Music would be coming to Windows soon. A few months after the announcement, the Apple Music preview app is finally available in the Microsoft Store.

While the Apple Music app for Windows is undoubtedly good news for millions of Windows users, the catch is that it is available for Windows 11 only. That is, as of writing this, the Apple Music app is available for PC users running Windows 11 version 22621.0 or higher versions only. Unfortunately, this means that the Apple Music app is not currently available for Windows 10 users.

Although the Apple Music app appears in the Windows 10 Microsoft Store, it cannot be installed on your Windows 10 PC. The Microsoft Store app shows the “The version of Windows on your PC does not meet the minimum system requirements for this product” message when you open the Apple Music app’s page in the Store.

So, the Apple Music app is not officially available for Windows 10. Is there a workaround to install the Apple Music app on Windows 10 PC? Unfortunately, there is no way to install the Apple Music app on a Windows 10 computer. However, if you often access the Apple Music service via a web browser, you can install Apple Music as an app in Windows 10 with the help of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser.

Here is how to install Apple Music as an app in Windows 10.

Install Apple Music as an app in Windows 10 using Google Chrome

NOTE: When you install Apple Music as an app, the Apple Music website is installed as an app.

Step 1: Head over to the official Apple Music webpage in the Chrome browser.

Step 2: Once there, click on the three dots next to your profile picture (refer to the image below), click More tools and then click Create shortcut option.

“Can I play Apple Music on PC?” is a common question amongst people who want to continue enjoying Apple’s music streaming service on a non-Apple device. The answer is, Yes. You can play Apple Music on Windows 10 or any other supported version.

While it’s difficult to escape Apple’s ecosystem once you’ve subscribed to their services or invested in songs from Apple Music, Apple still lets you continue using their music streaming services from devices they don’t produce.

How does this work? This guide will walk you through everything you need to get Apple Music on Windows 10.

How to Listen to Apple Music on Windows 10

There are equally good alternatives to Apple Music, such as Spotify, but there is no way all that subscription and music go to waste because you’re no longer using an Apple device. You can still listen to Apple Music with all your listening activities, followed artists, and liked songs intact.

And the good news is you can listen to Apple Music on Windows 10 in two different ways. You can go for either of the two, depending on how convenient you find it. One lets you listen to Apple Music on any supported browser (preferably a chromium one) on your PC, while the other is a desktop app that you can harness to listen to music on the go and with faster load times.

Listen to Apple Music Web on Windows 10

This method is your best bet if you don’t want your PC to get clogged from installing many apps. As suggested earlier, it allows you to listen to your favorite songs from any browser. Here’s how to go about it:

  1. Open your browser and visit Apple Music Player
  2. Locate the Sign-in button at the top right and click on it
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password, the one tied to your Apple Music subscription
  4. You’ll be taken to a two-factor authentication page. Ensure you have your Apple device on standby and enter the code sent to it on your browser

Quick Note: You can use other sign-in options if you’re not currently using an Apple device. In that case, the authentication code will be sent to the email address linked to your Apple ID.

  1. Next, a pop-up will appear on the screen, asking if you trust your current browser. Click the Trust button to proceed
  2. You should be logged in at this point. You’ll see your recent listening activities under the Library section on the left pane

Now you can enjoy listening to your favorite artists right on your browser.

Listen to Apple Music with iTunes on Windows 10

I like to think of this method as the better one, as it gives you access to more robust features outside of conventional Apple music. And the fact that it’s an app means you get faster load times and save data, since units of the interface and your listening activities are cached onto your local storage.

That said, here’s how to use iTunes for Apple Music on Windows 10:

  1. Go to Microsoft Store and search for iTunes
  2. Download and install it
  3. Launch iTunes and click Account > Sign in from the menu bar
  4. Input your Apple ID and password, then click the Sign in button under them
  5. Once you’re signed in, locate the pull-down box at the top left and select Music
  6. Locate the Browse button at the top middle and click it
  7. You may get an advert pop-up about Apple Music since it’s your first time signing into Apple Music via iTunes. Click the Already a Subscriber option
  8. Again, input the Apple ID details linked to your Apple Music subscription
  9. If you get a two-factor authentication prompt, follow it and provide the necessary verification information
  10. You’ll get a prompt on whether the software should merge your library across all devices linked to your iCloud Library. Click Merge Library to proceed
  11. Next, you’ll get a welcome message highlighting the features you have access to on Apple Music. Click Continue to proceed to your Apple music library

Pretty long steps, but don’t let them deter you. All this information is only required when you’re signing into Apple Music via iTunes for the first time. Henceforth, you’ll be taken to your Library directly when you open the app.

Can I Listen to Apple Music Offline on Windows?

Offline listening is only available on the Apple Music mobile apps on Android and iOS. You can only listen to music online via Apple Music desktop, and as for the in-house desktop iTunes, it doesn’t feature offline listening either.

However, you can use third-party Apple Music converter apps to download songs to your local drive.

How to Change Audio Quality on iTunes all Windows 10

You can change your playback quality on the iTunes app and a myriad of audio settings to ameliorate your listening sessions. To do this,

  • Select Edit on the iTunes homepage
  • Click Preferences and then Playback
  • Select Sound Enhancer

From the above settings, you can change the quality of a song during playback. You can also adjust the effect on the inbuilt Sound Equalizer. However, you can use a third-party sound equalizer to achieve better playback results.

Make the Most of Your Apple Music

Got some songs so melodic you’d like to share with friends and family? You can harness this seamless method to share playlist on Apple Music. Your recipients will be able to see your collated playlist and listen along with you.

Meanwhile, Apple Music is not the only music streaming platform out there. There are others that offer similar features, if not better ones. It’s up to you to weigh the options and choose the one that best serves you with this comparison, Apple Music Vs Google Play Music Vs Spotify.

What is Apple Music

Apple Music is just like Spotify; it is a subscription-based music streaming service created by Apple. Subscribing to this service unlocks a massive music library of more than 100 million songs that you can stream and listen to on any Apple device. At the time of writing this post, a subscription to Apple Music costs US$ 10.99.

Note that Apple Music does not offer podcasts. For that, Apple has a separate service known as “Apple Podcasts.”

Previously, the Apple Music app was only available on Apple devices, like iPads, iPhones, Macbooks, etc. Now, Apple is making its shift to Windows devices as well. However, the app is currently in its preview phase and still needs some work.

If you are running Windows 10 or an older OS, you can still listen to your Apple Music through the web version, or from the iTunes app.

Apple Music Preview for Windows 10

The Windows 11 exclusive Apple Music Preview app running on Windows 10!

image

What does this do?

This is an installer for the new Apple Music Client. It’s supposed to be exclusive to Windows 11.

But here’s the funny thing, almost ALL Windows 11 apps run on Windows 10 just fine. This is because the system is nearly the same, just Windows 11 is buggier. Funny, ain’t it?

Installation

  1. Go to the releases page, and there will be a .zip containing all of the files needed to install this. Download that file.
  2. Go to Settings > Update and Security > For Developers, and enable «Install apps from any source, including loose files.»

image

Just like in this image.

  1. Now open and extract the zip file.
  2. Run the Installer.bat file, just double-click it!

If you encounter any issues, refer to the steps below. :)

Troubleshooting

Sometimes there may be UWP apps running or services that are running that the script cannot stop. A simple way to fix this is to go into Task Manager and go to the «Startup» tab. And disable everything, then reboot.

image

You can re-enable these after you’re done installing.

How to upgrade

To upgrade Apple Music, you’ll need to download a «.msixbundle» file from a source like https://store.rg-adguard.net/

  1. Search for the app’s URL in the search bar (https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9PFHDD62MXS1).

  2. Select «Retail» instead of «RP» in the search bar.

  3. Select the one with the «.msixbundle» file name extension.

    image

  4. Extract the file with an utility like 7zip.

    image

  5. Enter the folder and extract the «.msix» file.

    image

  6. Rename the extracted folder to «AM» and move it to the cloned repository’s folder.

    • Delete the previous «AM» folder first.
  7. Run the Installer.bat and that’s it!

How to uninstall

Uninstall Apple Music like any other Microsoft Store app, by going to Settings > Apps > Apple Music Preview > Uninstall and that’s it, uninstalled!

Known issues

None that I know of :D. At least none that aren’t in the app itself. They can be replicated on Windows 11 as well.

Notes

  • This has not been tested on any Windows 10 version before 21H2. But it should work just fine. As the system files from 2004 and beyond are the same.
