Like any other application, Skype receives frequent updates, allowing for better user experience and even new features.
The process for checking which Skype version you’re using on Mac versus PC is slightly different, but the process for updating to the latest version is basically the same on both devices.
Here’s how to manually update Skype on your Mac or PC or download the latest version.

How to update Skype on a PC
If you’re using a PC running Windows 7 or 8, you can update Skype directly in the app. Here’s how:
1. Turn on your PC and launch the Skype application on your computer. Sign in if needed.
2. Click on the «Help» button. If you don’t see the «Help» option, hold the «ALT » key on your keyboard and a menu will appear.
3. Click «Check for updates manually.»
If you’re running Windows 10, you’ll have to update your Skype version through the Microsoft Store.
How to update Skype on a Mac
1. Launch and sign in to Skype.
2. Click «Skype» in the top toolbar.
3. Click «Check for updates» and select the update if available.
How to download the latest version of Skype on a PC
1. Open your browser and navigate to https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/ to download the latest version of Skype.
2. Click the blue button in the middle of the box on the left hand side of the screen.

3. Select «Get Skype for Windows,» or one of the other options, depending on which operating system you’re using.

4. The file should begin downloading, double click on it once it’s fully downloaded.
5. Follow the prompts, and choose to replace the old Skype application on your computer with the newer version, if prompted.
How to download the latest version of Skype on a Mac
1. Open your browser and navigate to https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/ to download the latest version of Skype.
2. Click the blue button in the middle of the box on the left hand side of the screen.
3. Select «Get Skype for Mac.»

4. The file will begin to download at the bottom of your screen. Once finished downloading double click it.
5. In the pop-up window, drag the Skype icon on the left side over to the Applications folder on the right side using your mouse.

6. A pop-up window will appear asking you if you’d like to replace the version of Skype currently on your computer with the new one. Click «Replace.»

7. Double click the Skype icon to open it.
8. A pop-up window may appear asking you if you’d like to open Skype. Click «Open.» The latest version of Skype should now open on your computer.

Способ 1: Через саму программу
Обновить скайп на компьютере, можно через само приложение. Самое главное, чтобы ваш ПК был подключен к интернету.
- Откройте Skype.
- Перейдите на вкладку «Уведомления».
- Нажмите по кнопке «Обновить». Если такой кнопки нет, то скорее всего, у вас уже установлена последняя версия. Но есть еще один вариант проверить это.
- Откройте меню программы, нажав по трем точкам напротив вашего аватара.
- Заходим в «Настройки».
- На вкладке «Помощь и отзывы» вы должны увидеть кнопку «Обновить» – нажмите по ней.
Если кнопки нет – проверьте, подключен ли ваш компьютер к интернету. Если есть проблема с этим, попробуйте перезагрузить компьютер и ваш домашний роутер. Дополнительные советы можете почитать по ссылке ниже.

Способ 2: Microsoft Store
Обновить скайп бесплатно и до последней версии можно через стандартный магазин Microsoft Store. Обычно через него и идет обновление этого приложения.
- Откройте поиск Виндовс и введите:

- Слева выберите раздел «Библиотека» – здесь расположены все установленные программы и расширения.
- Кликните «Проверить обновления».
- Если обновления на Скайп будут найдены – установите их, нажав по соответствующей кнопке напротив.
Способ 3: Удаление и установка
Если оба способа выше не дали результата, значит есть проблемы с модулем обновления Skype. В первую очередь нам нужно удалить программу из системы. После этого переходим по ссылке ниже, нажимаем скачать.

So, as you know, there are two versions of Skype available for Windows 10, Windows 8 users: there is the desktop program that can be installed on computers running Windows 10, Windows 8, and there is the Windows Store Skype app that can be accessed via the Start Screen.
Updating the Skype desktop client is done easily, as it has by default a feature for automatically searching for new updates and prompting you to download and install them. Every time you start Skype, it will run this search, and if it finds an update, it will notify you. Once it finds an update, you will see a popup message asking you to update the client. By clicking “install”, the wizard will download and install the update for you.
If you don’t have this feature turned on, you can do so by opening Skype and navigating to the “Tools” menu and selecting “Options“. Under “Advanced” you will find a sub-category named “Automatic Updates“. Here you will see if this service is turned on. If you it is not, you can turn in on and from now on, at every startup, Skype will search for an update.

The Skype App for Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 is also very easily updated. As you might know, when you start your Windows 8, Windows 10 device, the Store will notify you if you have updates to make. Microsoft releases periodic updates for its apps, and if they will release one for Skype, you will be able to see in the list of apps to update on your Store app.
Note: Keep in mind that the Store app also has a option to search for updates automatically, so be sure to have it turned on.

You can also check for updates manually. To do this, go to Help and select the ‘Check for updates’ option from the drop-down menu.
Skype will then search for updates. A new update window will appear on the screen allowing you to install the latest updates. If you’re using old Skype versions, you have two possibilities: you can either install the latest updates for your your current Skype version or upgrade to the new version.
Speaking of updates, it is worth mentioning that all Skype users will have to switch to the new Skype version starting May 25. Microsoft already began notifying users that old Skype version will no longer work after May 25.
We noticed you are using a version of Skype for Windows 10 that will no longer work after May 25, 2018. Older conversation history may be impacted during the upgrade.
