The Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI) is a built-in driver that allows communication between your device’s OS and the IME firmware. The driver activates some specialized/dedicated features on your motherboard, allowing you to control your PC remotely. It also works for a computer that’s powered off or doesn’t have an operating system installed. However, when your IMEI driver fails, you lose access to its functionalities. Instead, you get a question or yellow exclamation mark when you view the driver from the Device Manager. Now, when you open its properties, you’ll see the Error Code 10. It is often accompanied by a message that says, “This device cannot start. (Code 10).” Do you want to learn how to fix Intel Management Engine Interface issues? If so, keep reading.

What Is the Code 10 Error in the Device Manager?

The Code 10 error appears when the Device Manager cannot start a piece of hardware due to corrupted or outdated drivers. It’s a general error message that pertains to unspecified hardware or driver issues. It can appear on any Windows version, including Windows 7, 8, or 10. It’s common to removable devices, and it occurs when Windows fails to run a piece of hardware like a flash drive or printer. If the IMEI problem led to the Error Code 10, you need not worry. Fortunately, we’ve compiled available solutions to the “Intel Management Engine Interface device cannot start” error. Let’s examine them one after the other.

How to Fix the Intel Management Engine Interface on Windows 10

  1. Reboot Your PC

Windows has several automated troubleshooters that help solve various issues. An example is the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter. It helps resolve driver-related problems, so it’s worth giving a try whenever you run into the error code 10 issue. However, Microsoft has removed this utility from its Troubleshoot menu on Windows 10. Luckily, you can access the utility via the Command Prompt or PowerShell. Follow the steps below to access the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter using the Command Prompt or PowerShell:

  • Press the Windows key + X to launch the Power User menu.

  • Now, click on the Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell option from the menu to open the corresponding console. Enter the following command line after that and hit the Enter button:

msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

Diagnose your device via PowerShell

That will open the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter in a new window.

Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

  • After that, click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process. Once the wizard completes, it will notify you of any issues found. It will also show you the results of its attempt to fix the issues.

That’s all folks. These are the three possible ways for the Resolution. In the above article I tried to solve your problem of Intel Driver in which you got the error “This device cannot start code 10”

Hello, it’s been a while that the driver Intel Management Engine Interface has error code 10 (Status_device_power_failure) I tried many ways to solve it but it still has this error and as a result I have issues in my sleep mode and also booting. My laptop restart after I try to awake it from sleep mode. Also when I want to turn on my laptop it takes longer than usual and  the mouse and keyboards connected to the laptop turn on and off several times. I don’t know if it’s related to the intel 8 series c220 drivers or any PCI related driver or it’s something related to Intel Management Engine Interface driver itself.
I tried all these to solve it but none helped:
— sfc /scannow — DISM check and restore health — BIOS reset — CMOS battery removal and replacement — In-place upgrade of Windows — Reinstalling Windows using a bootable flash drive and formatting all partitions (I tried many different windows 10 versions but still I got the error and issues) — Driver updates — Uninstalling and reinstalling the mentioned driver (different versions 9,10,11, 11.7 and etc.) — Downgrading BIOS version.
Only when my laptop is off for some days or when I release all it’s electricity by pushing power button several seconds The issue seems to disappeared but after a restart it comes back. my laptop is HP Probook 450 G1 with windows 10 64bit.

Microsoft support team couldn’t help and even I sent this issue details to Intel Support team and they said I should get in touch with the manufacturer of my laptop.

3. On this page, you will see the detailed downloading information about the Intel MEI driver. Click Download button to download the driver. You will see the driver file is ME_SW_1909.12.0.1236.zip.

On the right side, you will see this driver supports 6th, 7th, 8th Generation Intel(R) Core Process Family.

4. Extract the installation package, find the setup file, and double-click the file to install the driver.

How to Fix Intel Management Engine Interface Code 10 Error

Why does this part appear here? Because the code 10 error for Intel Management Engine Interface in device manager is related to the drivers and the solution is uninstall and reinstall the driver.

So when the error code 10 for this Intel MEI device appears, you can follow the next steps.

1.Open Device Manager.

2. Expand System Devices and find Intel Management Engine Interface, right-click to select Uninstall device. Some computer may show in Other Devices.

uninstall intel management engine interface driver

3. In Uninstall Device interface, select the check box Delete the driver software for this device, and click Uninstall button.

4. Follow the above two methods to reinstall Intel Management Engine Device driver.

Conclusion:

As a subsystem that can manage the thermal drive of the chip and can complete some tasks independently, the Intel management Engine Interface driver needs to be kept up to date. And if a code 10 error occurs, you need to uninstall the original driver and reinstall it.
