Установка WinDFT
Установщик WinDFT доступен на официальном сайте HGST.com в разделе Downloads. Скачивать программу с других сайтов не советуем: есть вероятность найти устаревшую или небезопасную для установки версию дистрибутива.
- После скачивания архива распакуйте файлы и запустите файл setup.exe.
- Следуйте указаниям установщика. Нужно согласиться с условиями лицензии и выбрать папку назначения для копирования файлов программы.
- После установки WinDFT запустите приложение (ярлык на рабочем столе)

Тестирование жесткого диска в программе WinDFT
- При запуске программы будет выполнен поиск всех имеющихся на компьютере жестких дисков. Учтите, что программа поддерживает не все жесткие диски. Если устройство не совместимо с WinDFT, вы увидите соответствующее уведомление.
- При необходимости, можно выполнить повторное сканирование (например, если к ПК подключено устройство HGST, но оно не отобразилось в списке).
- Для выполнения теста отметьте флажком необходимое устройство в списке. На выбор — два типа тестирования:
- Quick Test — проверка работоспособности занимает сравнительно меньше времени — около нескольких минут,
- Ext Test — более детальное тестирование, занимает довольно продолжительное время (в зависимости от capacity диска).
- В результатах тестирования, у статуса может быть одна из отметок — Pass / Fail (соответственно, Пройдено или Ошибка). В разделе Log View доступна более детальная информация о каждом из тестов. Это позволит выявить ошибки чтения записи на HDD.
- Если необходимо получить детальную SMART информацию о жестком диске, дважды кликните на соответствующем жестком диске в главном окне
Примечание. Помимо работы с HDD, WinDFT поддерживает тестирование usb-флешек. Если вы подключите флешку во время работы программы, она определится в списке устройств как secondary device.
WinDFT Utilities: безвозвратное удаление данных на HDD
В дополнение к базовой функциональности, обратите внимание на WinDFT Utilities. Раздел Utilities доступен через главное меню.
В частности, Utilities используются для безвозвратного удаления файлов (без возможности восстановления) или быстрой очистки жесткого диска.
Есть две опции:
- Erase MBR — удаление раздела жесткого диска
- Erase Disk — перезапись диска нулями (операция занимает дольше времени)
Используйте WinDFT Utilities с крайней осторожностью — обязательно перепроверяйте, какой жесткий диск выбран для обработки.

WinDFT (Hitachi Drive Fitness Test) is a great software for testing internal and external HDD as well as USB flash memory. The tests leave filesystem untouched and thus do no harm.
In this guide we are telling how to install WinDFT and use its range of tools as good as you can.

WinDFT — Quick Setup
You can find WinDFT Installer at HGST.com in the Downloads section. We wouldn’t recommend downloading the software from other resources since you can possibly get an outdated or insecure version.
- Once the archive is downloaded, extract files and run setup.exe file.
- Follow the instructions of the install wizard. Accept the license agreement and select destination folder for the application files.
- After installation, start WinDFT (shortcut on the desktop).
Below is the instruction to using WinDFT for hard drive tests.
Test your Hitachi disk using WinDFT
- When started, the program scans your device for hard disks installed or connected on your computer. Keep in mind that this tool supports only HGST memory devices. If your hard disk is not compatible with WinDFT, you will see a notification.
- If you need, you can perform the scan for a second time (for example, when an HGST device / Hitachi disk is connected to your PC but is not displayed in the list).
- To perform the test, check the box next to the right device. There are two scan modes:
- Quick Test takes relatively less time, about a few minutes,
- Ext Test is a more detailed test which takes quite a while (depending on the disk capacity).
4. In the test results status is marked with Pass or Fail. Log View section provides more detailed information on each of the tests. It allows you to see disk read errors on HDD. To get detailed MSRT stats, double click on the specific hard disk in the main window.
Note. Besides HDD, WinDFT also works with USB flash memory. If you connect a USB stick when the program is running, it will be read as a secondary device.
WinDFT Utilities: permanently erase data off a Hard Drive
In addition to the basic features, consider WinDFT Utilities as well.
In particular, Utilities are used to permanently delete files (without possibility of recovery) or promptly wipe a hard drive.
There are two options in Hitachi HDD Tools:
- Erase MBR — deletion of a hard drive partition
- Erase Disk — zero filling of a disk (takes longer)
Use WinDFT Utilities carefully and double check which Hitachi hard drive you chose for processing.

IBM Hitachi Drive Fitness Test is a program designed to diagnose hard drives manufactured by Hitachi and IBM. In addition to diagnostics, the application can recover broken sectors on the hard disk, delete the boot sector and perform formatting at a low level.

IBM Hitachi Drive Fitness Test is a hard drive test program that tests hardware specifically designed by the Hitachi company. This software tests for malware and bugs. It is pretty reliable but only really useful if you use Hitachi products.

I Own a pc repair shop, we use this to check our customer’s harddisks whenever we get weird boot errors. Since it’s self-booting, we can even run it on the main OS drive without having to tear the harddisk out and stick it in another machine. The included restoration tools are decent, they could be better but it worked for us more than enough times.

I needed a software that will test the drive on my desktop without overwriting or deleting my data. IBM Hitachi Drive Fitness Test for Windows gets the job done. It was so easy to run. This is only compatible with x86 processors which is what I have. If this is what your systems is, then this would be a great software for testing drives.

I have had a good experience with IBM Hitachi Drive Fitness Test (DFT) software. It is easy to use and has an intuitive interface. It provides comprehensive diagnostics on all types of hard drives and shows detailed drive information. Hitachi is a Japanese technology company that specializes in software programs, servers, hard disk drives and computers. If something goes wrong with one of your hard disk drives, Hitachi provides you with free disk drive diagnostic and management tools, which you can download from the Hitachi website.
Feature Tool
This tool allows you to change the settings and/or options for your advanced technology attachment (ATA) hard disk drives, and it runs when your computer is starting up. To use this program, you must download the software and then create a bootable CD. It is compatible with the Windows and Linux operating systems, and it supports 48-bit addressing, which allows you to add more memory to your integrated development environment (IDE) hard disk drive. Another feature allows you to adjust the power modes and the ultra direct memory access (UDMA) protocol settings, which then allows you transfer data from your hard disk drive to your random access memory (RAM). You can also reconfigure the serial advanced technology attachment (SATA) interface. The Feature Tool is designed specifically for the Hitachi Travelstar and Deskstar ATA hard disk drives.
Fitness Test
The Drive Fitness Test (DFT) is a tool for checking the health of your hard disk drives, including your IDE, SATA, Parallel ATA and small computer system interface (SCSI) drives. It will run tests on your system without compromising or writing over data to determine why your disk drive will not start up or keeps crashing. It will also create data logs of any drive parameters. There are three scan levels: a full scan, a quick scan and a customizable scan, where you determine what drive or area of a drive to scan. This tool is compatible only with x86 processors.
Align Tool
The Hitachi Align Tool helps you determine whether or not your disk drive is partitioned properly (disk partitioning involves breaking up a hard disk drive in different virtual drives, allowing you to create independent drives on your computer). This tool will help ensure all your data sectors are aligned correctly, and it will also help you determine whether or not data is being correctly written on and read from the drive. This tool is compatible only with Windows operating systems.
OGT Tool
The OGT Diagnostic Tool allows you to run tests on your disk drive to determine whether or not it is working properly, and it also lets you know why a particular disk drive has failed. This tool is compatible with the Windows operating system, and it is also compatible with the Ultrastar 15K73, DK32xx and 10K300.
