Way-1: Run System File Checker and DISM tools

Repairing the Services can solve the existing error code and for this System File Checker and Deployment Image Servicing and Management tools are capable enough. So without getting bothered run them using the below steps –
- Press Windows and R.
- Type – cmd.
- Next, press – Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
- On the User account control dialog, select Yes.
- Type the syntax
SFC /Scannow.
- Hit Enter to see the message “Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. Beginning verification phase of system scan. Verification x% complete”
- Once the percentage reached 100% restart your computer.
- Go to Settings > Windows update.
- Click on – Check for updates.
- See if Update error 0xca020007 is settled now.
- If the error still persists then now it is time to run the DISM tool and for this Open Command prompt as administrator.
- Type the following commands one by one and press enter –
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- In the end, reboot the device and see if the error is solved now.
Way-2: Restart Background intelligent services and other services that affect Windows update

- Type – services.msc.

- Run the following commands –
net stop wuaserv
net stop bits

- Now open the File Explorer (Winkey+E).
- Copy the under-written path –
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
- Paste this into the address bar and press Enter.
- Select all the content in the folder and delete them.
- Now run the below commands –
net start wuaserv
net start bits
net start cryptsvc
- Restart your computer and try getting the update.
- In case, the update failed to install again then download this file – Wureset_Windows_11_update.zip.
- Extract the zip package and browse the folder.
- Right-click on WuReset.bat and select Run as administrator.
- Click Yes on the UAC pop-up and press any key to start the reset command.
- Exit the command prompt and try once more to receive the update.
Way-4: Use Windows update troubleshooter
By default Windows 11 include a set of troubleshooting tools to rectify different errors related to Windows update, keyboard, Network adapter, Power, Store apps, and more.
Coming across 0xca020007 error code indicates that you need to bring Windows update troubleshooter into use –
- Click on Search.
- Type – troubleshooter.
- Press Enter to launch the Settings app.

- On the next page, select all the contents and delete them.
Note: If you are having problems deleting all the files, restart your computer and give it another try.
- After you clear the SoftwareDistribution folder, run the below command to start the Windows Update service.
net start wuauserv
- Again run the following command to start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service
net start bits
After you have completed the above steps, Windows will reorganize the file system and redownload all the components.
4. Restart Windows Update Service
It’s common to see several programs running in the background when you open up the task manager. These programs are known as Windows services. Although Windows does good job managing services, sometimes the feature or tool does not give effective results. In such a case, you will have to restart the services. To do this, follow the below steps:
- Right-click on Start and select Run from the menu list.
- Type services.msc in the text box and press Enter to open the Services window.
- On the next screen, locate the Windows Update service.
- Once you find the service, right-click on it and select the Properties option.
- On the General tab, change the Startup type to Automatic.
- Now click Apply to save the changes.
- Next to the Service status, click on the Start button.
- If your service is already Running, click on Stop and Start it again.
After you perform the above steps, restart your computer and check to see if Windows Update Error Code 0xca020007 is solved.
5. Reset Windows Update Components

- Press Windows + R keys to open a Run Window.
- Type services.msc in the Input box and press enter.

Start the Windows update service - If your service is already enabled then click on Restart to restart the service.

Clear Software Distribution folder
The software distribution is a folder that is located in the Windows directory and used to store temporary files which are required to install Windows Update.
Clearing the software distribution folder might fix the 0xca020007 error. to clear the Software Distribution folder follow the steps below:-
First, you have to stop the Windows update services, if you don’t do that then you might end up with Windows installation.

Free Up Disk Space
One of the very first things you should consider when having problems installing a Windows Update, is the amount of available hard disk space on your computer. Typically, you’ll need in excess of 10Gbs of free space at all times. Not just to install updates, but also for cache storage when running apps.
If you lack sufficient storage space, then there are several things you can do. You can take the more drastic step of acquiring a bigger hard drive or you can run the disk cleanup tool.

Reset Windows Update
If the solutions mentioned above, fail to fix error 0xca020007, then you may want to consider resetting all the components belonging to the Windows Update feature. There are numerous ways you can do this, with the most effective method outlined in my post on fixing error 0x8024a206.
Run System File Checker

For step by step instructions on how to do that, simply do the following:
1. Boot into your system as an admin.
2. Now, press + R, type cmd and press CTRL + Shift + Enter.
3. When Command Prompt loads up, type the following commands, pressing Enter after each line:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Restart BITS
BITS or Background Intelligent Transfer Service is an integral service of the Windows Update component. If this feature stops, then it will effectively halt the update process.
When it comes to error 0xca020007, there’s a possibility that this service has failed to start. In instances like this, you can get around it, by simply starting the service yourself.

Upgrade Windows Using Media Creation Tool
Media Creation Tool allows users to either reinstall or upgrade their iteration of Windows using a standard USB flash drive. For this particular solution, it’s recommended that you upgrade, as oppose to a clean Windows installation.
For step by step instructions on how to do that, please do the following:
1. First, boot into your system as a full administrator.
2. Then, download the Media Creation Tool, for your version of Windows:
Windows 10: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10
Windows 11: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows11
3. Now open Media Creation Tool and click on Accept (to accept the agreement).
4. This will take you to the What do you want to do? Screen. Click on Upgrade this PC now, then click on Next.
5. This should commence the upgrade. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.
Once the upgrade has finished, you can now try running Windows Update to determine whether or not it has fixed error 0xca020007.
