Bonzi Buddy is the mascot character of a computer program of the same name. The computer program is a malicious spyware program, which initially appears to be an interactive helper that can tell jokes, send email, ask questions, search the web and help with files. However, by installing the program, users are giving the program the ability to modify files and download new programs- including viruses and malware.
History[]
Bonzi’s first appearance in the Vinesauce community was during Joel’s Windows XP Destruction stream, where he attempted to infect a Windows XP Virtual Machine with viruses, malware, trojans, and other destructive programs. One of the programs Joel downloaded was Bonzi Buddy.
BonziBuddy was was already incredibly old when it first appeared, and as a result, many of the domains that BonziBuddy linked to had likely been bought by ads and redirected to other harmful websites. When Joel first attempted to download the BonziBuddy program, a window popped up which then redirected to a pornographic website.
Eventually, Joel found a mirror link and proceeded to set the program up, entering fake details and now-famously entering his name as «Expand Dong».

Bonzi Buddy later appeared in Joel’s Windows 7 Destruction Stream, as well as being a key component in the VineMEMZ and Bonzify trojan coded for Joel’s Windows 10 and Windows Vista Destruction streams by Leurak, the user behind the MEMZ trojan that Joel showcased in his Windows 8 Destruction stream.
Shutdown and Legacy[]
As a result of multiple sources claiming the program was adware and spyware, Bonzi Software, the program’s creators, were involved in legal trouble forcing them to discontinue the Bonzi program. The site remained open until 2008, when it was bought by a 3rd party and replaced with a «tribute» page that reads «RIP Bonzi — Rest in Piss, Forever Miss», whilst Gloria Gaynor’s «I Will Survive» plays and animated GIFs of Bonzi fly across the screen.
The program is still available on many mirroring sites, though it is not recommended for download on an actual pc.
Trivia[]
- The text-to speech voice that is used for Bonzi is named Sydney and is taken from an old Lernout & Hauspie Microsoft Speech package.
- A grave for BonziBUDDY appeared at the end of the stream highlights for XP, while Joel sings «My Heart Will Go On» and laughs. The gravestone reads: «My greatest dream is a world without Jews».
- Similar to how many of Joel’s memes bleed into Vinny’s streams, Bonzi was added to Vineland Island during Vinny’s Tomodachi Life stream, during which he came to be hated by him as well.
- When registering for BonziBuddy in his Windows XP Destruction stream, Joel entered his email as blink182s_enema@yahoo.com.
- Some of Joel’s Windows XP Destruction video with BonziBuddy was used in LGRs Tech Tales video of BonziBuddy.
